Thesis Question

How can heritage buildings be adapted into multiple suites using modern design principles?

This is what I was thinking for my thesis question. Any suggestions or improvements?

  1. Maybe you can be more specific on what you mean by "modern design principles". I reckon there's multitudes of modern design theory. Is it a green theory? Is it sufficiency? Aesthetics?

  3. Thank you Anika, that video talks about some of the issues with older homes I am researching right now. Very useful information on how to solve some of the problems!

  4. Hey Nadine

I have a friend living downtown in a 1912 home that has been converted into five living suites. If you want I could see if she's willing to let you have a look and see how they did their renovations.

  5. That would be awesome Nathan, if she would let me do that....I could use it for my project or case study?

  6. It may be too much to tackle for one research report, but it would be great if you could look at converting a heritage style home and a more modern home to suites. Like I said, you can always look at my home. There are lots of code issues because it was converted to suites before the building code took effect.

  7. hey, I know a guy in kamloops named kevin ortner who just started a business for making suites in existing houses. If you need to find out what it would cost or what is involved in the process i could get you his number.

If you could get me his number that would be a great reference for the process of adding suites to homes. Thanks

  9. Thanks Dale, I could look at your home which is older? And look into a newer house in Kamloops to convert also, if that is what you are trying to say?
